General Rules

No bucks are permitted on the grounds.
All dairy goat breed exhibitors should wear white clothing. Any exhibitor not following the dress code will not be allowed to enter the show ring.
DNA will be collected from all market goats at the May weigh in.

Age, Identification and Weight

All market and dairy wethers must be at the fairgrounds for the mandatory May weigh-in and ear tagging. The exhibitor or a representative must be present at the time of weigh-in. Four goats may be tagged in and four goats may be shown.
Wethers must have their milk teeth intact. Any wether missing teeth will be disqualified.
According to the Federal Scrapie Eradication program, all breeding goats and dairy goats must have an official Scrapie Tag by May weigh in.
All breeding goats must have an EID tag in ear.  Tags can be purchased at the fair office prior to making fair entries and recorded in the Fair Entry System. If exceptions need to be made, they must be emailed to the fair office (karen@preblecountyfair.com) for approval prior to the June 15 deadline. If the tag falls out, it must be replaced through the fair office and must be put back in the goat’s ear by the prefair check-in or fair weigh-in. Registered dairy goats must be tattooed, and LaManchas must be tattooed with a number that matches the PCJF ear tag. All market goats must have the EID tag in their ear.

All market goats must weigh a minimum of 45 pounds by fair weigh in. No market goats will be re-weighed. If no representative is present, exhibitor and animal are subject to disqualification.

Health and Care

Market wethers and Does may have horns but they must have the horn tips cut off in a blunt manner for safety purposes.
Goats presented for exhibition must show NO evidence of caseous lymphadenitis (superficial abscesses), contagious ecthyma (sore mouth), or foot rot. These animals are not to be unloaded and cannot be shown. Exposition officials and the approved veterinarian have the right to bar any animal showing evidence of the above afflictions from being unloaded, penned in the barn, or shown. They may order the removal of any animal. These decisions are final.
No goat, at any time, will wear a muzzle or other restrictive device that prohibits the animal from eating freely or drinking. If the animal does, said animal will be disqualified from all Jr. Fair classes.
All pens must be kept clean during the week. Pens must be cleaned out on Friday by 10 pm. If pen is not cleaned, a fine of $50 per pen will be enforced. The exhibitor’s sale check will not be released until fine is paid.
All market animals will be inspected at weigh-in for proper castration.

General Show Organization

Exotic breeds will not compete against Dairy Breeds; there will be two separate shows with each awarding a Grand and Reserve Grand Champion.
In both the Dairy Show and Exotic show, all animals will be shown by age, not breeds. Please refer to the class number list to determine the appropriate entry.
Breeding classes will be broken down at random, if number of entries warrant action.
Exotic breeds will include Pygmy and Angora but not limited to these. All other non-dairy and non-market breeds fall into this category and will be judged together.
All breeding goats are required to have an EID tag purchased and recorded in the Fair entry system. Tags must be placed in the ear unless alternate placement is approved in advance by the Fair Office no later than June 15.
EID tags for breeding goats will be available at the fair office. Registered dairy goats must also be tattooed, and LaMancha goats must be tattooed with a number matching the PCJF ear tag. Exhibitors must have the ear tag with them at all times.
With the exception of junior kids, senior kids, and yearlings, ages of all breeding goats classes will be calculated as of the day of the show.
There will be separate showmanship contests for Dairy/Exotic Goats and Market Goats. Exhibitors may only show in one showmanship contest. The winners of each showmanship will be represented in the Showman of Showman contest.
All market goats, regardless of dairy or meat, show on the same day.
All breeding (non-market) goats must be checked in at the mandatory pre-fair check-in date.

Dairy Market Wether - Specific Rules

All dairy market wethers must weigh-in at a minimum of 45 pounds.
There will be a Grand and Reserve Dairy Market Wether Champion, but no separation of weight classes.  Grand and Reserve Dairy Market Whether goats must come back to the overall market goat final drive.  
Exhibitors participating in Market Dairy Wether Showmanship will compete during the Sunday morning showmanship event, held in conjunction with the Dairy and Exotic Goat Showmanship.

Jr. Fair Market Goat Show - Specific Rules

Market goats will be shown in Divisions.
If a market goat is not shown in its assigned class, it will not be eligible to sell.
A wether/doe may be shown in the market show, but if a doe wins the Champion or Reserve, it MUST sell in the Sale of Champions, no exceptions.

Jr. Fair Meat Breeding Doe Show - Specific Rules

There is no limit to the number of meat breeds an exhibitor can enter.
Meat breeding does will be kept at the Fair the entire week.
No drenching is permitted.
All Ohio livestock and Junior Fair Livestock Rules apply - this includes no chemicals may be used to pop tail. Refer to the sections: Prohibited Grooming Practices and Unacceptable Practices for more information.
Exhibitors in this class must turn in a registration form by the May market goat weigh-in. Forms may be turned in at the weigh-in.
